The Cañon de Carnué land grant, located near Tijeras, NM seeked assistance from the BAEPD program to design and fabricate a picnic area near the land grant’s community center. Using site analysis and community input, students designed and constructed all furnishings along with a trail system that connects the picnic area to the community center above.

In 2016, BAEPD students designed a picnic area and gathering space for the Cañon de Carnué land grant community near Tijeras, NM. A semester long project, students worked in teams analyzing the site's complexities within the natural and built environment while learning about the cultural significance this site has with the community's history.

After conducting research and meeting with community members, students created a budget, designed campground elements, and created graphic representations of the picnic area. Students completed the semester with a two-day fabrication and installation dat at the site. Picnic benches, tables, a steel fire ring with Matachine dancers engraved on the fire ring, horseshoe pits, and staircase were installed at the site. Completed in May 2016, the Seven Springs picnic area is used by the community for events throughout the year.
